It doesn’t get much better then this, this side of heaven at least. Watching the sun slip below the horizon with the love of your life by your side in an absolutely stunning place. So good!

This Hawaiian monk seal was taking an evening nap on Kauai’s Ke'e Beach where the jagged Nā Pali Coast begins on the north shore. While most were here to enjoy the beautiful sunset, this guy seemed to have little interest.

I got to watch the full moon set in the color of the earth shadow over Hanalei Bay, the largest bay on the north shore of Kauai.

Before the evening light slipped away and leaving this location, I decided to do a self portrait. This is three exposures blended together in post. A sky exposure, a long foreground exposure to get the dreamy water look, and an exposure of myself.

Evening’s Last Light Near Queen's Bath, Kauai, Hawaii

This is one of a couple tide pools in close proximity to the popular Queen’s Bath. Many people come here to swim. Winter months often experience high surfs making swimming in these pools extremely dangerous. They appear to keep a tally at the trail head of the number of fatalities. I chose only to photograph, keeping a very close eye on the incoming waves! It’s easy to see why people flock to this area.

After the sun rises, I often look for more intimate and detailed compositions of an area. Here, I waited for a large wave to crash into this rock formation, then captured the water runoff and receding between the rocks catching the morning light.

The Kalalau Valley is one of the iconic views along the Nā Pali Coast of Kauai. Here, the day’s last light glows on the north peaks of the jagged valley wall.

After an overcast morning thinking the sunrise shoot might be a dud, there was a break in the clouds low on the horizon creating this beautiful scene.
